Paintings

Painting always seemed a bit daunting - all that training that the grand masters must have had before they could realise their ideas. But when I stayed with Roy Walker in St. Ives, and saw his paintings in the "natural environment" of his house, I came to look at painting differently. He talked about his paintings in a very down to earth way, describing how they were inspired by the objects around him. Without the trappings of the "gallery" and the "art world", the idea of painting came to seem more accessible - painting can just be for fun.

Lighthouse

Acrylic on canvas. Inspired by surrealist painters, and African cave paintings. It was painted when the first five planets were coming into conjunction in the early evening sky.

Spark

Oil on canvas. The first spark. Elementary particles in a cloud chamber.

Sunset

Acrylic on canvas. A drop of water refracting in a desert sunset. Inspired by the images of Taoism.

Fire Kisses Water

Oil on gesso on board. Each block in the picture shows a different aspect of fire and water - lava, flames, galaxies, clouds, waves, the deep sea.

Abduction

Oil on canvas.

Amazon

Acrylic on canvas.

Eye

Oil on board with gesso. A talisman.

Holy Ghost

Oil on canvas. Cathedral entrance.
